Ayurvedic skincare is founded in the holistic principles of Ayurveda which is pronounced ah-yoor-vay-da. Moreover, it is an ancient health and wellbeing system or way of living that originated in India over 5000 years ago. In fact, many believe it to be the oldest complete medical system in the world to date. Additionally, the Ayurvedic way of thinking is a holistic and all-embracing philosophy. So, its focus is to establish and maintain balance and harmony in your day to day life.
This holistic way of thinking believes that everything that exists in nature, like henna, has a medicinal value. Moreover, this belief system asserts that the foundation for good health is establishing and maintain a good digestive system. Therefore, we can all have the ability to keep in good health through ours diets, exercise and our daily routines, which in Ayurveda include the regular practicing of meditation and yoga.
Decode your Dosha
One of the core tenants or principles of Ayurveda is the understanding and decoding of your bodies build or constitution; people call this your Dosha. So, your Dosha, (pronounced as doe-sha), is made up of a combination of five core elements; fire, water, earth, air and ether. So, an example of how you may have come across these principles in your day-to-day life; is hearing one of your friends or family’s constitutions being described by adjectives like fiery, grounded or flighty. This is a reference to their Dosha type.
There are three main Dosha types, these being Vata, Kapha and Pitta. The five elements listed above combine to form each dosha type. So, the elements of air and ether define the Vata dosha. Additionally, Water and fire are Pitta’s most predominant features; and finally water and earth make up the Kapha dosha. Ayurveda believes that knowing and living in harmony with your constitution will help you maintain your health and wellbeing.
